Last week I was invited to an AWAKEN SUMMER event at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. We were served a lovely dinner and then treated to an update on all of the new Disney World additions for summer. Honestly, I was feeling like summer was going to be status quo as we wait for STAR WARS, TOY STORY and AVATAR to arrive–but I was wrong! All of the news and additions have me planning a trip back this summer. Here’s a quick run down:
Animal Kingdom
- Rivers of Light (stunning new nighttime show!)
- Night Safari (experience the savannah at night!)
- Tree of Life Awakenings (the tree swirls with color, lights and animation!)
- Harambe Wildlife Parti (join singers, dancers, acrobats and musicians for a street party)
- Discovery Island Carnivale (nighttime dance party including stilt walkers and musicians)
- JUNGLE BOOK themed show (limited engagement for the summer)
Hollywood Studios
It’s hard to be patient at this park as there is soooo much construction going on. It will all be worth it once STAR WARS and TOY STORY lands open up. But in the mean time there is an awful lot closed! However, there are a couple significant additions for the summer that will hopefully keep us all placated!!
- Star Wars Launch Bay (meet characters, see costumes, shop!)
- Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple (a new version of the uber popular Jedi Training Academy)
- Star Tours (new sequences from The Force Awakens)
- Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular (awesome new Star Wars themed fireworks and projection show)
EPCOT
- Frozen Ever After (new FROZEN themed boat ride)
- Royal Sommerhus (meet characters from FROZEN in a charming Norwegian cabin)
- New Soarin move to debut on June 17
Magic Kingdom
- New castle stage show MICKEY’S ROYAL FRIENDSHIP FAIRE (and we got a sneak peak of Mickey’s new costume for the show–see the picture above)
All of this will be debuting for summer. Plus, add in all the new shops and restaurants opening in Disney Springs (over 150 in total!) and there is a lot going on!! I can’t wait to get back there and check it all out!!
