I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more often…..but I still hate it when it does! Today my flight from Dallas to Minneapolis was cancelled and I had to scramble to find an alternate route home. I finally found an option but it came with a 4 hour layover.
In St. Louis.
Sigh.
As I wandered the departure area looking for a seat (and praying for an outlet!), I saw a sign for “WINGTIPS LOUNGE”. A quick Google search filled me in on this new lounge option in terminal 2. I walked over to the gate 33 area and entered the lounge. I was met with cheerful and helpful staff who quickly gave me the details. The lounge had just opened seven days earlier, and was an alternative to airline membership based lounges. Wingtips is open to all travelers on any airline! The cost for a day visit (up to 4 hours) is $38. They also offer membership programs. The cost includes many comfortable seating areas, free wifi, large (clean!!) bathrooms, food, beverages (including a bar), and a plethora of outlets! 🙂 I happily handed over my Southwest Visa and chose a lounge chair with a portable desk. I was immediately approached by one of the three staff members and offered a drink. They also brought me a menu of food offerings. For the next three and a half hours I worked, ate, drank, chatted with the staff, charged every device I owned, and overall had a very calm and enjoyable time!
I’m sending a big shout out to STL and the Wingtips Lounge! You saved the day! I highly recommend getting stranded in St. Louis!
